Major Woodrow Wilson Felty, USAF, Retired, 102, of Palmyra, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Countryside Christian Community Nursing Home. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Gertrude (Werdt) Felty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet L. (Angstadt) Felty in 2009.
He was a member of St. Johns EC Church in Steelstown. Woody retired as a Major in the U.S. Air Force. He was a WWII pilot who flew C-47 cargo planes. One of his last missions was flying during the Berlin Airlift. After the war, he continued to fly planes to determine if they were safe for the military to keep using or if they needed to be retired. He was a fantastic bowler, and is a member of the Lebanon Valley USBC Hall of Fame, and continued to bowl until around age 95. He was instrumental as a youth bowling coach. Woody was also an avid gardener. Even at the nursing home he grew his onions and tomatoes.
Woody is survived by two children: Derith L. Stover & husband Jerry I., and Lee W Felty & wife Laurie, all of Palmyra; three grandchildren: Christopher D. Walters & wife Kammy, Amanda M. Soule & husband David, and Morgan C. Felty; and two great grandchildren: Evan Walters & Ruby Soule, as well as multiple extended family members. He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene P. Felty.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A visitation will be held from 10-11AM prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
