Ronald Goretzke Obituary

Ronald W. Goretzke, 87, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, Lancaster.  Born Monday, July 30, 1934, in Lancaster, he was the son of the late William and Ethel (Troop) Goretzke.  He was married to Mildred J. “Millie” (Wolegemuth) Goretzke for nearly 61 years until her death on March 1, 2017.

Ron graduated from East Lampeter High School.  After graduating, he went on to work for New Holland Machine Company followed by Union National Bank in Maytown as well as various part-time truck driving jobs. In 1972 he took over his father-in-law’s trucking company and eventually became the owner/operator of Conoy Trucking, Inc.  During that time, he hauled for places such as Simon Candy, Engle Printing and the US Postal Service, among others. Ron and Millie were fond of collecting antiques and Ron collected graniteware and attended conventions for many years. He loved old trucks, especially Fords, as well as toy trucks and attending many truck shows with his grandsons and great-grandsons. He loved to travel and visited many places over the years, but his favorite was the family cabin where he could relax and read his papers in his easy chair.

He is survived by a son, W. Dwain Goretzke, married to Theresa, of Elizabethtown.  Also surviving are two sisters: Roxene Myer, married to Donald, of Lancaster, Elizabeth (Canning) Snyder, of Lititz; four grandchildren: Heather Costa, married to Joseph, of Gloucester, VA, Michael Goretzke, married to Mindy, of Elizabethtown, W. Dean Goretzke, married to Nicole, of Elizabethtown, and Gwynn Goretzke, of Beaver Falls; nine-great grandchildren as well as Ronald’s extended family and caring friends.  In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis R. Goretzke.
