Paul Jacob Gerhart

Rev. Dr. Paul J. Gerhart, 95, of Wernersville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Phoebe Berks Health Care Center, Wernersville. He was born on Thursday, April 26, 1928 to the late Paul A. and Emma (Gerberich) Gerhart. He is predeceased by his first wife, Mary Jane “Kitty” (Dugan) Gerhart and he is survived by wife, Ruth A. (Brandt) Gerhart.

Paul attended Lebanon Valley College and Lancaster Theological Seminary, pastoring numerous churches in both Michigan and Pennsylvania. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan and spent many years working in the University Conference and Institutes office. He was involved in many local community organizations, and loved cheering on the Michigan Wolverines, RV travel and boating. More than anything he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Rebecca Fogle and husband Rev. Dr. Jon; grandchildren, Paul, Thomas, and Andrew Fogle; and siblings; Eleanor Hollowell, Carrie Carter, and Herbert Gerhart and wife Marsha, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Thomas Gerhart and sister Mabel Hollowell.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 11AM at Phoebe Berks Chapel, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, PA 19565. A time of visitation will be held from 10AM until the start of the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
