Jeanie C. (Connell) Small

Jeanie Connell Small, 71, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 surrounded by her family at Cornwall Manor in Cornwall, PA. She was born on January 2, 1952 in Mount Holly, NJ, to Robert Connell Sr. and Dorothy Mary Connell.

Jeanie grew up in Mount Laurel, NJ with her brother, Robert Connell Jr. While attending Elizabethtown College, Jeanie met Michael Hershey Small, and they were married in 1975. Jeanie worked in the banking industry for many years, beginning as a branch teller and later becoming an assistant branch manager. Jeanie and her husband settled in Palmyra, PA and raised two children, Julie and Mark.

Jeanie was devoted to her family, and nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with them. Whether she was doing her much loved crossword puzzles with her son on a Sunday morning or travelling around the world to visit her daughter, granddaughter, and son-in-law in Australia, she was always so happy to be with them. Jeanie and her husband could often be found celebrating special occasions at the Hotel Hershey and enjoying shows at the Hershey Theater. She also took many trips to her favorite places such as Ocean City, NJ and New York City.

Jeanie was a long-time member of the Palmyra Church of the Brethren and volunteered in the children’s ministries and at the Caring Cupboard. Jeanie’s kindness, compassion, and ability to see the good in all things were some of the qualities that her family and friends cherished most about her.

Jeanie is survived by her husband, Michael Hershey Small; her daughter, Julie (Small) Palmer and husband Robert; her son, Mark Robert Small and wife Lauren; her brother, Robert Connell Jr. and wife Susan; her niece, Katrina Suzanne Connell and fiancé Eric Douglas Billman; and her granddaughter, Sophie Ann Palmer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at the Palmyra Church of the Brethren, 45 N. Chestnut Street, Palmyra, PA. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2PM with the funeral service immediately following. A private burial for immediate family will be held at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
