James S. Lewis, Jr.

James S. Lewis, Jr. passed away at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center on Saturday, August 19, 2023, following several months of declining health.
Jim was born at Hershey Hospital on December 23,1951. He grew up north  of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Palmyra Area High School in 1969.
Jim held several jobs during his working years, in positions involving distribution and logistics.
In 2016, Jim retired from Ryder Integrated Logistics, Inc., as Customer Logistics Manager at Metals USA, in York Pa., and returned to Palmyra to care for his brother Scott Lewis.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, James S. Lewis, Sr., and Anna Mae Jennings Lewis Adomaitis, and by his younger  brother, Scott Lewis. He is survived by his sister, Cynthia J. Lewis, of Mechanicsburg. Jim described his late grandfather, Ralph W. Jennings, as “the best friend I ever had.”
During his active years, Jim enjoyed fishing and boating, and his happiest times were with his “river friends” on Beshore Island who remember him as “part of our family “to this day.  Like his father, Jim Jr. was an excellent golfer.
More recently, he became a connoisseur of gigantic TV screens, mind-numbing audio systems, and well-tended landscape.
Jim’s faith was important to him. He read his Bible daily and said often in recent years that he is ready to go home to God.
Jim will be greatly missed by the friends he kept over decades, and by his sister, who talked with him every day and now has no one to whom she can say “remember when?”.
A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory may be made to the Penn State Cancer Institute, 400 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033.
