Howard “Bud” G. Newton, Jr., 90, of Palmyra, formerly of Pottsville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy, PA. Born Wednesday, February 22, 1933 in Pottsville, he was the son of the late Howard G., Sr. and Catherine (Leary) Newton. He was married 43 years to Patricia A. (Lazurick) Newton who passed away in 2013.
Bud was the owner operator of Newton Transportation in Pottsville. He also owned the Christmas tree farm, Winter Woods. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. A devout Catholic, he was a strong family man committed to his wife and family. An avid Eagles fan, he also enjoyed horse racing, going to the casino and scratch-off tickets.
Bud is survived by two daughters: Melissa J. Devonshire and husband Brian of Palmyra, and Pamela S. Nosti and husband Joseph of Womelsdorf; two grandsons: Connor Flammer and Hunter Firing; and a brother Robert Newton. He was predeceased by five siblings.
Relatives and friends are invited to a time of sharing and visitation on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bud’s memory may be made to the Greater Lebanon Food Bank.
