Gerald Schuldt Obituary

Gerald Richard Schuldt, 91, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Born Sunday, September 5, 1926 in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of the late J. Carlton and Verna (Isenberg) Schuldt. He was the husband of Madeline Fabian Schuldt, also of Masonic Village. Gerald’s first wife Janice L. Schuldt died in December 2002.

Gerald has attended Christ Church United Church of Christ in Elizabethtown since 1929. He became a member in 1941 and served as a deacon, trustee and as the usher/greeter coordinator. He also served as an elder from 1969-99.

While attending high school, he worked at the dairy at Masonic Homes. After graduating from Elizabethtown High School in 1943, Gerald enlisted in the US Navy. After boot camp training in Sampson, NY, he was transferred to the USN Seabees where he served in Okinawa until he was discharged in 1946 as a Machinist’s Mate 3rdClass.

He worked at the former Hamilton Watch Company in Lancaster from 1943-58. He was then employed by the US Postal Service in the Elizabethtown Post Office until he retired in 1987. After retirement, Gerald worked part-time for the former Ridgeview Farms Market in Elizabethtown, and for several funeral homes in the Elizabethtown area.

He was a member of the American Legion, Conewago Post #329 in Elizabethtown since 1946. He served all offices of the post including Post Commander in 1969, 1970 and 1994. He was the only post commander to serve during both the 50thand 75thanniversaries of the American Legion. He served as finance officer since 1972 and was awarded honorary life membership in 1970. Gerald also served as District #10 Commander, which comprises all of Lancaster County, in 1983 and 1984. He attended nearly all Pennsylvania State Legion conventions since 1955 and National Legion conventions since 1983. In 1990, he was awarded an honorary life membership into the Army Navy Air Force Veterans in the Canada/United States Division at the national convention in Indianapolis. He was also a member of the Navy Seabee Veterans of America, Island #5 in Lancaster, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fred Barley Post #5667 in Elizabethtown.

Gerald was a 67 member of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682, F&AM, Elizabethtown, Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, a 60 + year member of Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Consistory, Valley of Harrisburg, and High Twelve Club #629 in Elizabethtown.

Additionally, he was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter #1741, Middletown, AARP, a 50 year member of Lancaster Automobile Club, and a life member of Friendship Fire and Hose Company #1 in Elizabethtown.

In addition to his wife Madeline, Gerald is survived by two step sons: Terry Fabian and wife Sandy of Harrisburg; David Fabian and wife LaDonna of Montana; five step grandchildren, ten step great grandchildren; twelve nieces and nephews: Lou Ann Mylott, Lory Hess, Scott Enterline, Linda Smith, Pam Daughton and Rick Sheetz all from Lancaster County; Pat Spickler from Schuylkill County; Tom Enterline from Georgia; Barbara Jones and Beverly Salmon from Maryland; Andrew Jordon from Kentucky and Julie Browne from New York.

He was predeceased by three sisters: Jean Sheetz, Arlene Jordon and Marjorie Enterline, and one nephew.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown at 1:00 PM. Viewing will be on Monday, July 2ndat Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown from 6:00-8:00 PM, with a Masonic Service conducted by Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682, F&AM at 7:30 PM, and on Tuesday at Sell Chapel from 12:00 Noon until the time of service. Burial with Military Honors will take place following the service in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
