Frederick E. Basehore

Frederick E. “Fred” Basehore, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.  Born Thursday, December 26, 1929, in Mechanicsburg, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel D. and Fannie B. (Shank) Basehore.  He was married to Dorothy L. (Wineland) Jessell-Basehore for nearly 24 years until her death on September 1, 2020.  

A Veteran, Fred proudly served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.  Fred worked his entire career with the Weis Markets, moving up the ranks until he became the General Superintendent.  He was also a member and leader in the Masons and Shrine organization in both the Williamsport, Pa. and Spring Hill, Florida for more than 50 years.  Fred was very devoted to his Christian values and was very active in the United Methodist Mariner Church in Spring Hill, FL. 

He is survived by two children: Fred Basehore, married to Beth, of Shippensburg and Deborah Courtright, of State College.  Also surviving are five stepchildren: Diana Summers, of Mechanicsburg, Aileen Wetz, married to Dennis, of Allenwood, Roxanne Weber, married to Gurn, of Hughesville, Robert Jessell, married to Sue, of Napa, CA., and Randy Jessell, married to Gin, of Williamsport.   Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, as well as Fred’s extended family and caring friends.

Services will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA  17022.  The services will begin at 2 PM with a Masonic Service.  Following the Masonic Service, the Memorial Service will begin with Pastor Brian Farling officiating.  At the conclusion of the memorial service, Military Honors will be accorded by the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard.  Those attending are required to wear a mask/face covering.  Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Montoursville Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.
