Fred Olweiler Obituary

Fred E. Olweiler, 87, of Elizabethtown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Born in Elizabethtown, he was the son of the late Harvey L. and Ida M. (Hippensteel) Olweiler. He was married 62 years to his loving wife Velma L. (Stum) Olweiler.

Fred served in the US Navy on the USS Robert L. Wilson as a Machinist Mate from 1950-54. Fred worked for the former AMP, Inc. as a tool and die maker for 40 years, retiring in 1993. He went on to work for J & S Machine Corporation in Manheim for two years before retiring for good. Fred was a lifetime member of Milton Grove Sportsman’s Club and was active with E-town Boys Club Football and coaching Little League Baseball when his sons were growing up. He played church and town league softball and bowled at Clearview Lanes in various leagues over the years. He enjoyed hunting with his brothers-in-law at Mill Run Camp in Sinnemahoning. Following retirement, Fred and Velma spent time camping with family. He was also a big fan of Penn State football. Fred was a member of Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren and was active with the usher team.

Surviving in addition to his wife are four children: Debra A., married to Dale Thomas of Elizabethville; Jody L. Dapp and fiancé Greg Fry of Lewisberry; David E., married to Terri (Stevens) Olweiler of Mount Joy and Jason A., married to Amber (McEvoy) Olweiler of Denver; nine grandchildren, six step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren; a brother Raymond married to Carol Ann of Lancaster and three sisters: Dorothy Nellenbach and Beatrice Troutman both of Elizabethtown, and Ethel Lueders of Mount Joy.

He was predeceased by a brother Lawrence and a sister Beulah Redcay.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place in Elizabethtown Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
