Elvin Leaman Kreider, 80, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. He was born Friday, June 22, 1934 in Strasburg to the late Allen and Anna (Leaman) Kreider. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Thelma (Hershey) Kreider.
Elvin loved the farm. When he wasn’t farming, he was talking about farming. After he retired he enjoyed driving around and watching other farmers work. He loved God and the church, serving Stauffer’s Mennonite Church in a variety of ways, including youth ministry leader, trustee, and treasurer. His generous spirit was also evidenced by his service with Mennonite Disaster Service and other charities. After his retirement from farming he served the Amish community. He loved his family. His children honor his legacy of faith, hard work, and commitment in his care for their mother as she suffered the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease.
He is survived by a son, Glenn Kreider and wife Janice of Cedar Hill, TX; two daughters, Joan Buckwalter and husband Leon of Harrisburg, and Linda Metzler and husband Ray of Greeley, CO; six grandchildren, Jeneec Martinez and husband Johnny, S. Michael Kreider, Joshua Buckwalter, Shayla Buckwalter, Nathan Metzler, and Karina Metzler; one great grandson, Dallas Buckwalter; four brothers, Allen Kreider and wife Flora, Paul Kreider and wife Helen, Earl Kreider and wife Marian, and John Kreider and wife Kim. He was predeceased by a brother, Tobias Kreider; a sister, Gloria Shelly.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 23rd at 11:00 AM at Lebanon Valley Bible Church, 1482 Horseshoe Pike, Lebanon, PA 17042 with Pastor John Hunt and Dr. Glenn Kreider officiating. Burial will follow in Stauffer’s Mennonite Church Cemetery, Bachmanville. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Monday, December 22nd from 7 to 9 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 and on Tuesday from 10 AM until time of the service at the church.
