Avid flyer, Sailor, Businessman, Masonic Brother, Model Train Hobbyist

Arnold Stackhouse, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Masonic Village, Elizabethtown.  Born Sunday, November 28, 1926, in Andalusia, PA, he was the son of the late Louis and Henrietta M. (Wilson) Stackhouse.  He was married to Elsie K. (Gunder) Stackhouse on November 18, 1950.

Arnold served in the 6th Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and earned a Purple Heart on Okinawa.    His career was in construction work of fireproof commercial buildings and at the age of 50, he began, along with his wife, Elsie, a sailmaking business in Havre de Grace, Maryland.  He was an excellent sailboat racer and seaplane pilot.  He and Elsie had many adventures in his Cessna 182 traveling all over the United States.  In 2006, Arnold and Elsie retired to the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, where he started the model flying club at the Masonic Village. 

In addition to his wife of nearly 69 years, Elsie, he is survived by four daughters: Alexia “Lex”, married to David Wells; Elia, married to Neil Doberstein; Lydia, married to Jim Palm and Adria, married to Joe Waters.  Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Ray, Nicole, Hope, Arne, Jennifer, Danielle, Rebecca, Omar, Eric, Emily, Jonathan; 11 great-grandchildren Cooper, Piper, Raine, Serena, Felicity, Melanie, Owen Robert, Morgan, Hera, Eva, Emelia and baby Shupp due in January 2020.   

A committal service will be held at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors.  Arrangements have been entrusted with the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arnold’s honor to a charity of one’s choice.
