William P. "Bill" Young

William P. “Bill” Young (Yanelavage), of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, passed away on September 3, 2026, while under hospice care in Evergreen on campus. Bill was born on February 16, 1936, in Kingston, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Josephine (Wienckoski) Yanelavage.

He attended Kingston High School where he was senior class president and elected “Mr. Kingston” Class of 1954. Bill continued his education at Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School and was National Preparatory School Wrestling Champion. Following graduation, he attended Wilkes College, West Chester State Teachers College, earning a BS in Health and Physical Education, and a MS at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. He received a Certificate of Administration from Lehigh University.

Bill taught history, health, physical education, driver training and was Assistant Principal in the Parkland School District. He was the first wrestling coach at Parkland and was inducted into the PHS Hall of Fame, and served as an official in the Lehigh Valley Wrestling League where he was also inducted into the Officials Hall of Fame. Bill, or “Coach” as the kids called him, was a dedicated teacher and coach who cared deeply for his students and athletes.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and camp. He spent countless hours caring for his property, raising Brittany Spaniel hunting dogs, growing Christmas trees, and making wine from fruit he grew on his and other local farms. He was a dedicated sports enthusiast, especially the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Penn State athletics and learning Tai Chi with the Little Tiger Tai Chi Club. He enjoyed travelling in their motorhome throughout the USA and Canada, and spending winters in Florida. Trips to Alaska, Bermuda and China were three of his favorites. Many of his best times were riding the paddle boat with his granddaughter Ali, sharing ice cream and taking her to LBI and Disney World.

He was a member of the Penn Coachmen and Rajah Shrine Caravanners. He was a member of Neff’s Union Lutheran Church; the Sell Chapel, Elizabethtown; Slatington Lodge No. 440 F&AM; Slatington Royal Arch Chapter No. 292; Packer Commandry No. 23; Allen Council No. 23; Rajah Shrine; Elizabethtown Masonic Village Shrine Club; Scottish Rite, Valley of Allentown; the Donegal Area High Twelve Club 686; and the Grand and Glorious Order of Hillbilly Degree, Outhouse 1, Clan 9.

In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his daughter Susan (Young) Marth and son-in-law Olin R. Marth II, of Sinking Spring, PA; a granddaughter Alexandra E. Marth, of Brighton, CO; brother Robert C. Yanelavage, of Plymouth, PA; and nephew David C. Carey, of Shiremanstown, PA.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 11:15 AM with a Masonic Service conducted at 11:00 AM at the John S. Sell Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. Visitation will be from 10:00 until the time of service. Additionally, there will be visitation with family on Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 10:00 –11:00 AM, with a Masonic Service conducted by Slatington Lodge #440, F&AM at 11:00 AM at Heintzelman Funeral Home, 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, PA 18078.
