William D. Forney

Mr. William D. Forney, 94, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 25, 2013. Bill was born in Taneytown, Maryland, on January 1, 1919, the son of the late David and Naomi (Hahn) Forney. He suffered from Alzheimer's and had been a resident at Frey Village in Middletown since September 30, 2011.
A loving Christian husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Lewisberry, Pennsylvania. He had been a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 542, since October of 1943. Near the end of his career which involved working on projects from Puerto Rico to New York, he spent eleven years as Master Mechanic during construction of Three Mile Island, supervising over 200 men.
He is survived by a daughter Sharron (David) Sedziol of Pataskala, Ohio, and three sons: David (Susan) of York, Melvin (Kay) of Etters, and Philip (Kathleen) of Elizabethtown; grandchildren Jonathan (Bethany) Sedziol of Columbus, Indiana; Joel (Diane) Sedziol of Johnstown, Ohio; Jason (Charla) Sedziol of Pataskala, Ohio; Trisha (Mitchell) Seitz of York; Megan (James) Fry of Red Lion; Shannon (Brock) Heller of Mechanicsburg; Shawn Forney of Rheems; Sherri Lynn Forney and William P. Forney both of Elizabethtown; Allison (Dieter) Stenger of Fredericksburg, Virginia; and David Way of Baggs, Wyoming; 18 great-grandchildren, and a brother Kenneth of Taneytown, Maryland, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy, in 1978; by his wife Phyllis in 2011 after 70-1/2 years of marriage; and by 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
A graveside service to celebrate his life was held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at Good's Cemetery in Elizabethtown. Memorial gifts may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 780 Woodland Avenue, Lewisberry PA 17339.
