William James Chambers of Palmyra, formally of Airmont, NY, died at home on October 24, 2015, after a brief illness.
Bill was born to James and Mary (Smith) Chambers in 1945 in Mt. Kisco, NY. He graduated from Horace Greeley HS in Chappaqua, NY. He also received an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Westchester Community College, followed by Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Education with honors from State University College at Oswego, NY.
He taught Industrial Arts and Technology at Ramapo Central School in Suffern, NY for 32 years. He also was an active member of the Ramapo Teachers Association.
Bill met his wife, Bonnie (McNulty), while at college. They were married for 45 years and have two sons, James of Cohoes, NY and Robert of Pomona, NY. In 2004, Bill moved with Bonnie to Palmyra, PA where he enjoyed his hobbies of antique cars and small gas engines.
Bill was always known for his willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and casual acquaintances. He spent many hours tending the grounds at All Saints Episcopal Church, Hershey, and helped lead mission trips to Pascaguola, MS following Hurricane Katrina. Giving even after life, Bill requested that his body be donated for research particularly into pancreatic cancer through the Humanity Gifts Registry of PA.
Bill is survived by his wife and sons as well as his brother, Frederick (and Eileen) Chambers of Fort Plain, NY, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. A service honoring Bill's life will be celebrated at All Saints Episcopal Church, 310 Elm Ave, Hershey, PA 17033 on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 11 AM.
