WILBUR E. “BUD” WEAVER

Wilbur Ebersole “Bud” Weaver was born on December 3, 1915 in West Donegal Township, R.D. Elizabethtown, PA 17022, one of seven children of Frank Horst and Sarah Ober Ebersole Weaver. Bud passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013 in The Masonic Village of Elizabethtown.

In the Elizabethtown Area School District he was a high school student, a high school Principal, school district director, and President of the Parent Teacher Association.

He earned a B.S. degree in Business Education at Elizabethtown College and a Master’s degree at Temple University. In 1937 he was a teacher of business subjects at New Cumberland, in 1939 at Elizabethtown, and in 1946 at Reading Senior High School. He was editor of the New Letter for the PA Business Association for 14 years. He was a past president of Phi Delta Kappa, Graduate Fraternity in Education. He was employed for 7 years as office manager for The Continental Press, after which he was employed at Elizabethtown College for 28 years where he served as Business Manager, Assistant to the Treasurer, and Manager of the college Bookstore and Post Office. He served 7 years as Secretary of the Administrative Committee. He was honored with the yearbook dedication in 1963 by Elizabethtown College and received two of the three Elizabethtown College Alumni Educate for Service Awards. Elizabethtown Moose honored him in 1976 with the Outstanding Citizen Award for Meritorious service in the community. Elizabethtown College renamed its post office Weaver Mail Services for serving the college ‘tirelessly in many capacities, but especially in the role of postmaster.”

He was honored by Elizabethtown Borough for the many clubs and organizations he served over the years: President of Elizabethtown Area Senior Citizens, Lions Club, Park Commission, Little League, Community Center, Church Choir, DeMolay, Scottish and York Rite Masonic Bodies, and several musical groups. Mr. Weaver was honored with the Scottish Rite 33 rd degree in Boston, MA in 1996. He is a Past Master of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682, F&AM, and the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection. From 1970 to 1986, he and wife Leona were members of the Brethren Singers. They sang hymns from a 1901 hymnal performing in 9 states. He also was a member of the Lions Club quartet and the Stewards quartet. He was active in the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, he taught Sunday school, served as youth advisor and served in the church choir for 64 years. He also served as a Deacon.

He was a WW II veteran of the Army Air Corps.

Married 64 years to Leona Reinhold Weaver, who passed away in 2003.

He is survived by three children; Daniel R., Wilbur R., and David R. Weaver; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, three brothers; Harold E., Gerald E., and Michael E. Weaver. He was preceded in death by two sisters; Anna Ruhl, Betty Jane Weaver and a brother Frank Weaver.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 22, 2013 in the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Pamela Reist officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tunnel Cemetery.

Viewings will be from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, February 21, 2013 with a Masonic service beginning at 8pm in the church, and from 10am until 11am on Friday, February 22, 2013 in the church.
