Walter D. Bartell, 94, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, June 15, 2014 in The Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon. He was born Wednesday, September 24, 1919 in Harrisburg to the late Joseph E. and Ida C. (Penner) Bartell. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Rose E. (Hursch) Bartell.
Walter proudly served in the US Army Air Corps from October 1944 until December 1945; during this time he was stationed in New Guinea. He was a faithful member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior, was an avid baseball fan, followed politics in great detail, and enjoyed dining out with friends. Most importantly he was a loving father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by 2 sons, Nicholas A. Bartell and wife Shirley of Lebanon and Stephen A. Bartell Jonestown; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; and a sister Mildred “Jane” Zerance. He was predeceased by 2 sons, Dean L. and James E. Bartell; and several siblings.
A memorial service will be held Satuday, June 21 st at 10 AM at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 420 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg 17109 with Pastor Joel Petruschke officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9 AM until time of the service. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.
