VIRGINIA “GINNY” FAY GOODLING

Virginia “Ginny” Fay Goodling, 77, of Bainbridge, PA, went home to Heaven on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at approximately 5:00 in the evening. She passed away peacefully at Hospice and Community Care of Mt. Joy with her husband Harry R. Goodling by her side. Ginny’s passing was the result of a nine month battle with cancer, diagnosed in September 2013.

Ginny was born on September 16, 1936 in Florin, PA to the late Charles and Bertha (Royer) Brooks. She spent most of her childhood years growing up in Florin and graduated from Mt. Joy High School in 1954. She attended Florin Church of the Brethren with her family. After graduation, Ginny worked for Syco Oil Company and Armstrong Floor Plant.

After dating through high school, Ginny and Harry were married on May 27, 1956 at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren. The couple spent the next six years in California, during Harry’s service at Travis Air Force Base. Their two oldest daughters were born during that time. After returning to PA, Ginny and her family lived on the property of Donegal Presbyterian Church where they were custodians of the church and grounds. Their third daughter was born in 1973. In 1974, they moved to Bainbridge, PA. Ginny and her family attended Word of Life Chapel in Bainbridge, where Ginny remained a member.

After caring for her children at home for many years, Ginny worked for ten years at Longenecker’s Hatchery where some special friendships were formed.

Ginny’s hobbies included painting ceramics, crochet, needlepoint crafts, bird watching, reading, studying scripture, and listening to Bible teaching. She also enjoyed swimming in her pool with her kids, nieces and grandchildren and family vacations at the cabin. Ginny donated to many charities through the years, and her giving heart was felt by all near her through her actions and words of love. She had a smile that expressed delight in her loved ones. Her laughter and sweet voice welcomed those around her and put everyone at ease.

Ginny will be deeply and lovingly missed by Harry, the love of her life. Her memories will live on and encourage her daughters: Tina L. Jacoby and husband Steve of Bainbridge, Judy L. Goodling of Bainbridge, and Beth L. Emberger and husband John of Bear, DE. Memories made with “Sis” will bring smiles and comfort to her brothers: Charles W. Brooks and wife Jo-Anne; and Jay M. Brooks and wife Peggy. Her stories and legacy of a Christian grandma will be passed on to her grandchildren: Christopher L. Erickson, 25; Ashley Fay Jacoby, 18; Breanna M. Jacoby, 17; Angelina G. Jacoby, 6; Alexander C. Emberger, 13; Andrew C. Emberger, 11 and Aaron C. Emberger, 5. She will also be missed by Rascal, her Yorkshire Terrier.

The family warmly thanks: the people of Word of Life Chapel; the nurses, aides and volunteers of wing 3 in the Hospice and Community Care of Mt. Joy; and all those who have supported the family in various ways through this difficult time.

A service of remembrance will be held at Word of Life Chapel, 139 Wickersham Road, Bainbridge, PA, 17502 on Sunday, June 8th at 4:00pm in the afternoon.

Arrangements are under the care of the Miller-Sekely Funeral Home & Crematory of Elizabethtown. www.millerfuneralhome.com.
