Velma Irene Nissley, 88, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. She was born Thursday, March 4, 1926 in Lebanon, to the late Harvey G. and Velma (Nace) Nissley.
Velma retired from M&M Mars as a bar line operator, prior to her employment there, she was the owner of Towne and Country Beauty Salon. She attended New Life Church of Hershey and was a former member of the Campbelltown Fire Company Auxillary and the Hershey Historical Society. She kept her hands busy by gardening, crocheting, and playing with her dog; she kept her mind sharp by reading. Most importantly she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Gish of Elizabethtown; a son, Linwood Neidigh and wife Donna of Annville; 4 grandchildren, Bryan Neidigh and wife Cheryl of AZ, Duane Neidigh and wife Amy of GA, Michelle Harnish of PA, and David Gish of PA; 9 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bruce Nissley. She is predeceased by a great-grandson, Dillon Neidigh; and 5 siblings, Charles Stepp, Harvey and John Nissley, Pauline Becker, and Rachael Swope.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2014 in Shenk’s Community Cemetery, 5880 Schoolhouse Rd., Elizabethtown 17022 with Pastor Greg Starr officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the American Heart Association Inc., PO Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693 or to the Humane Society of Lebanon, 129 Cumberland St., Lebanon 17042.
