Valentin “Val” Worona, 74, of Palmyra, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center following a long battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Ukraine on Wednesday, February 22, 1939 to the late Roman and Maria (Lysenko) Worona. He is survived by his loving wife Lesia (Dacko) Worona.
He graduated from Penn State University, College of Engineering and worked as a Civil Engineer for the PA Department of Transportation for 20 years. After taking early retirement he became self employed as owner of American Quick Print. He was an avid enthusiast of WWII history having lived through it as a child and was a member of the WWII roundtable. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and working with tools and equipment. Most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and love of life. His never-ending curiosity made every day an adventure in learning something new. Whether it was a matter of politics, or making pickles, Val’s goal was to fully understand the matter at hand. Trips to the beach with family were one of his favorite pastimes along with sitting down to a plate of steaming crabs with a cold beer and lively conversation. His personality lit up the room, and he will be missed.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory V. Worona and wife Sharon of Springdale, AR, Marc A. Worona and wife Donna of Sonoma, CA; a daughter, Stephanie L. Blocher and husband Michael of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Nathan, Connor, Michaela, Lauren, Olivia and Natalie; a sister, Nina Reed; three brothers, Alex, Peter and Roman Worona.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14th at 11 AM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Father Michael Popson officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 9:30 AM until time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hershey Cemetery, Hershey.
