SHIRLEY FRYMIRE MCCALL
Shirley Frymire McCall (nee Shirley Mae Frymire), born in Harrisburg, PA on May 24, 1928, died March 10, 2014 in Hershey, PA. The daughter of John Wesley and Anna Mabel Frymire (nee Wachtman), Shirley was the oldest of three children. Her brother, Leo Frymire, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, R. Lynn McCall, their children and grandchildren, and her sister Helen Bryner. Shirley graduated from Enola High School , (now East Pennsboro High School ) in 1945. She attended Juniata College in Huntingdon , PA and graduated with a degree in Bible and Philosophy in 1951. She took two years off during her college days to attend the Deaconess Training School in Baltimore , Maryland . She worked two years as a Parish Worker at St. Paul ’s Lutheran Church in Lititz , PA. , followed by two years at Trinity Lutheran Church in Norristown , PA. She married Lynn McCall in June 1955. She taught first and third grade at Lynnewood Elementary School in Haverford Township until her children were born. Shirley and Lynn raised their children in Havertown, PA, and moved to Elizabethtown, PA after retiring.
They have two daughters, Dianne Lynn Heard (John) of Lansdowne, PA and Ellen McCall Fischer (Gary ) of Englewood , OH, and two grandchildren, Grace Lynn Heard and Katherine Elizabeth Fischer. After the girls were in Junior High, Shirley went back to work as a book keeper. She worked four years for Finnaren and Haley, then ~15 years for Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr , PA , followed by ~5 years for St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Ardmore , PA. She was active in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lynn and Shirley’s home church since 1955. Shirley taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was active in the women’s and global missions groups. She was also active in the Auxiliary of the Lutheran Deaconess Community where she served as Treasurer for many years. Shirley was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Recently she served as a hospice volunteer at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11am at the Sell Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. Visitation will be held at the chapel from 10am to 11am.
