Sandra "Sandy" J. (Pfleiger) Schantz

Sandra “Sandy” J. Schantz, 78, of Hummelstown, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 31, 2021. Born May 22, 1943 in Powder Valley, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Mohr) Pfleiger. She was married 57 years to Gerald J. Schantz.

Sandy began work at the Woodson Dairy in Red Hill, PA selling ice cream in the store front in 1960 before moving to the office where she worked as an administrative assistant. This started her love affair with ice cream which continued throughout her life.  She and Gerald moved to Elizabethtown in 1970 and became members of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Sandy was very active on many committees and served on church council.  Professionally she worked for Murphy’s Construction Company, Continental Press and Hershey Medical Center.

She enjoyed traveling with a special group of life-long friends, gardening with her husband Gerald, exercising with her Strong Woman Group and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband Gerald, she is survived by two daughters: Jennifer J. Wright and husband Rodlee of Exton and Sally J. Hammaker and husband Jason of Bainbridge; five grandchildren Justin Wright, Madison Hammaker, Tyler Wright, Seth Hammaker and MacKenzie Hammaker.  Her brother James Pfleiger and wife Bonnie reside in Allentown.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 at 11:00 AM. Visitation with family will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family.
