Salvatore Joseph Cordaro
March 7, 1922 — February 17, 2014
Salvatore Joseph Cordaro, 91, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 17, 2014 at home with loving family by his side. He was born Tuesday, March 7, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Ignatius and Maria (Bonacasa) Cordaro. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Therese N. (Dincalsy) Cordaro.
He was as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Air Corp serving as a flying instructor and flight engineer during WWII. He retired as a purchasing agent from Hauck Manufacturing after many years of faithful service. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, served on the North Londonderry Township Sewer Authority for 35 years and as the original chairman. He was an exceptional craftsman, enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, and traveling. He was a loving family man and lived by example.
He is survived by three sons, Stephen J. Cordaro and wife Anne Marie of Hummelstown, Robert J. Cordaro of Charlottesville, VA, Richard J. Cordaro of Harrisburg; two daughters, Judith T. Bashore of Palmyra, Carolanne Cordaro of Renova Center Lebanon; ten grandchildren, K. Taylor, Jordan, Andrea Bashore, Christopher, Laura, Mary Anne, Andrew, Christine, Allison, and Catherine Cordaro; two great-grandchildren, Stella and Korbin Bashore; a sister, Grace Inglese of Scottsdale, AZ; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 21st at 10 AM at Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Father James F. Podlesny as Celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Family and friends are invited for viewing on Thursday, February 20th from 6 to 8 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra and on Friday from 9 AM until time of Mass at the church.
