Russell T Abbott

Russell T. Abbott, 89, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on Friday, March 13, 2026. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on October 21, 1936 to the late Russell V. and Grace Elinor (Caven) Abbott. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Marlene R. (Hartwig) Abbott. He was predeceased by his son, Gregory Talbot Abbott.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Diane and husband Dan Abbadusky and Cathleen Schrecengost; grandchildren, Matthew Abbadusky, Danielle Sauerwein (Tommy), Kristyn Hoffman (Brad), Jonathan Abbadusky (Callie), David Abbadusky (Samantha),Abigail Reish (Samuel), Andrew Schrecengost (Jacqueline), Alexander Schrecengost (Emma); and great grandchildren, Ava and Paxton Abbadusky, Willow, Weslynn, and Waverly Sauerwein, Jayson and Job Hoffman, Monroe Abbadusky, and Sophie and Nolan Reish. He was predeceased by his brother Donald “Terry” Abbott.

He was a faithful member and former Elder and Sunday School teacher at Hershey Evangelical Free Church. He was a devoted Christian who enjoyed studying the scriptures and sharing his love of the Lord with others.

He retired as Director of Safety, Philadelphia Division, after 42 years of service from the Railroad. Russell was an avid golfer, reader, enjoyed water sports, fishing, flying, and skiing. More than anything he enjoyed vacations with his family and being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.


A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 11 am at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078 with Pastor Omar Zook officiating. A time of viewing will be held from 10 am until the start of the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Fishburn Cemetery, Hershey.
