Ronald Lee Rothermel, 69, of Manchester, CT passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. Born January 29, 1944 in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Norman and Myrtle (Watkins) Rothermel, he grew up and lived in Palmyra and was a graduate of Palmyra High School, Class of 1962. Ron earned his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania Musical Academy. He was a gifted and talented musician and he served numerous churches in the Philadelphia area as an organist. He has been in the Hartford area for over thirty years. Ron was currently the organist and choir master at the Church of Saint Timothy in West Hartford where he has served for more than twenty-five years. He also served as the pianist at the Hartford Golf Club for thirty years. He was a member of the Northeaster Chapter, American Guild of Organists. He is survived by his brother, James Rothermel and his wife Amelia of Annville and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Prettyman of Williamsport.
A funeral service will be held at The Church of Saint Timothy, West Hartford, CT on Saturday, October 26.
A later funeral service will be held in Palmyra on Monday, October 28 at 11:00 AM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, 17078 with the Rev. Leonard Knighton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
