Robert F. Strickland, 81, of Conoy Twp., passed away on Monday,
September 24, 2012 at his residence. Born in Palmyra, he was the son
of the late Frank H. and Sue M. (Shine) Strickland. He was married
over 59 years to Erma Jeanne (Bastian) Strickland.
A self-employed farmer, he served as a Township Supervisor in Conoy
Twp. for 48 years. He was a 1952 graduate of Penn State University
where he earned a BS in Forestry. While at Penn State, he was in the
ROTC program and after graduation entered the US Army as an officer in
the Signal Corps. He was also a founder of the Susquehanna Regional
Police Department.
Robert was recently honored by Conoy Twp. when Conoy Park Baseball
Field was renamed Strickland Field.
In addition to his wife Erma Jeanne, he is survived by four sons:
Doug, husband of Maraya, Lincoln City, OR; Scott, husband of Lisa,
Reamstown; Russ, Lincoln City, OR; Steve, Bainbridge; a daughter Deb,
wife of Terry Tirko, Wellsville, PA; a brother James Strickland; five
grandchildren: Erin, Brett, Nathan, Rebecca and Neil; and one great
granddaughter Hailey.
Viewing will be held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Miller-Sekely
Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown from
5:00-8:00 PM. Services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Conoy Twp. Parks
& Recreation Association.
