Robert C. Stone, III, 77, of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at UPMC Community Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg. Born Wednesday, December 27, 1944 in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Robert C., Jr. and Mary L. (Kreiser) Stone. He was married to Rebecca A. (Arndt) Wealand-Stone. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife Barbara (Williams) Stone who passed away in 1985.
Bob was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Middletown. A US Army veteran, he served for two years during the Vietnam war. Bob was the owner/operator of Middletown Tire and Alignment, as well as Bob’s Trailer Service. He also held various trucking jobs and served as Mayor of Royalton. Bob coached peewee football for Seven Sorrows Athletic Association for over 20 years and was inducted into the CFA Youth Football League Hall of Fame in 2013. He also started the track & field program for SSAA. Bob raced stock cars at Silver Springs for many years and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was actively involved with the Main Street Gym Rescue Project, helping to save the gym from demolition in the 1980’s. He also DJ’d for parties and weddings and was a Green Bay Packers fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife Rebecca are three sons: Robert C. Stone, IV; Brian Stone and wife Julie; and William Stone and wife Amanda, all of Middletown; two daughters: Ashli Stone of Port Royal and Valerie Stone of Middletown; 11 grandchildren, one great grandson, and a sister Susan Guyer and husband Thomas of Carlisle. Bob’s family also includes nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends. He was also predeceased by his furry best buddy, Flint.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 121 North Spring Street, Middletown, PA 17057 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Burial with Military Honors will take place in Middletown Cemetery.
