Robert R. George

Robert R. George, 81, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Pleasantville, NJ, he was the son of the late Russell J. and Mary E. (Brown) George. He was the husband of Barbara A. (McCrink) George. They were married for 59 years on September 11th.
Bob served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and earned a BA degree in Business Administration from Elizabethtown College. He was retired from the School District of Lancaster where he was employed as an accountant. Previously he was employed by Wyeth Labs for 10 years, and after retirement worked for five years as a mailman and driver at Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. He played the Harmonica and enjoyed high diving. Bob participated in many Elizabethtown Area Music Foundation Broadway Musicals. He liked to work all types of puzzles, enjoyed the shore, especially Cape May and was an excellent golfer.
A 33rd degree Mason, Bob was a member and Past Master of Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682, F&AM, Elizabethtown, where he was presently serving as Chaplain, a member and Past High Priest of Corinthian Royal Arch Chapter #224, was a member of the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Shrine and was a member and Past President of the Masonic Village Shrine Club. He also served as Principal of the School of Instruction for the 60th Masonic District. Additionally, Bob was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion and the PA School Retirees.
In addition to his wife Barbara, Bob is survived by three children: Richard W. George, Elizabethtown; Cynthia Lee (Mark) Funkhouser, Elizabethtown and Russell E. (Holly) George, Macungie, PA; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: David and Fred.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 in Christ Lutheran Church, 125 East High Street, Elizabethtown at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be held on Monday, October 14th in the John S. Sell Memorial Chapel, Masonic Village, Elizabethtown from 6:00 PM-8:30 PM. There will be a Masonic Service conducted by Abraham C. Treichler Lodge #682 on Monday evening at 8:00 PM. Please note that there will be no viewing on Tuesday prior to the service.
Interment with Military Honors will take place in Mount Tunnel Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Abraham C. Treichler Lodge, #682 Charity Committee, 588 Freemason Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
