Richard Elwood Risser

Richard Elwood Risser, 83, of Hershey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2014 in Twin Oaks Nursing Home. He was born Wednesday, April 22, 1931 in Hershey to the late John Wesley and Marie (Smith) Risser. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth N. (Bomgardner) Risser.

Richard retired from Hershey Foods after 43 years of faithful service, there he was a member of Local 464 Chocolate Workers Union. He was secretary/treasurer of the McDonald’s Gang and an avid golfer. Most importantly he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He is survived by 2 sons, Richard A. Risser, Sr. and partner Terry Q. Bergman and David E. Risser and wife Beth; 2 grandchildren, Richard A. Risser, Jr. and Michelle; a great-grandson, Adryck P. Risser, with whom he was very close with; and a daughter, Linda Rodgers. He was predeceased by a grandson, Rick Hoff.

Dad was a stubborn man sometimes and had a temper from time to time, but he was a gentle, kind man, just like his father; a man that would have given the shirt off of his back. He loved in his quiet way just as we loved him.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 8th at 2 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Rev. Samuel Fry officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from Noon until time of the service. Burial will follow in Hanoverdale Cemetery, Hummelstown.
