Richard "Dick" Ray Ebersole Jr., 89 of Elizabethtown passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Masonic Village. Richard was born on April 23, 1936 in Harrisburg to the late Richard Ebersole Sr. and Ethel M. McGill.
He graduated from Middletown High School where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Ruby M. Harbold. They shared an incredible 69 years of marriage.
Richard went to work for the U.S. Postal Service after graduation. He started as a letter carrier in Elizabethtown rising through the ranks and retiring as Postmaster of Palmyra, PA with 39 years of service.
Richard was also active in his community, he served on the Community Park Commission in Elizabethtown, belonged to the Elizabethtown Jaycees where he served as president for two years.
He had a competitive streak on the tennis court, he was an avid player and competed in the senior Olympics and won a state championship in both doubles and mixed doubles.
Richard and his wife, Ruby enjoyed bicycling together and traveled throughout the United States and Europe with a special group of friends creating many memories.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ruby and their four sons, Chris, Blue Bell, PA; Jeffrey (Debra), Shippensburg, PA; Brian (Judi), Mechanicsburg, PA; Gary (Jodi), West Granby, CT. He was the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren, Corey, Kyle, Logan, Jenna, Jarad, Austin and Cali; and five great-grandchildren, Solomon, Lennon, River, Cameron, Kellen and Nisa. They all brought him endless joy. He was preceded in death by grandson, Logan S. Ebersole. Richard will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering devotion to those he loved and his ability to make people smile and laugh with his quick-witted jokes.
Interment will be at the convenience of family, in Elizabethtown Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabethtown, PA.
The family would like to thank the staff who cared for him while he was at Lancaster General Hospital-Penn Medicine and the staff at Evergreen Hospice at the Masonic Villages.
