The Rev. Paul W. Stauning of Palmyra, PA passed away peacefully on Jan. 13, 2014 surrounded by family and friends at Lebanon Valley Brethren Home. He was 90 years old.

Paul was born on Aug. 11, 1923 in Camden, NJ and attended elementary and secondary schools in that city. He graduated from Drew University, Madison, NJ in 1945 and from Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, NJ in 1948, and , was a US NAVY veteran serving during WWII. He was ordained by the Presbyterian Church (USA) in 1948 and held pastorates in five different congregations over a 35 year period: Fairton, NJ, Collingswood, NJ Philadelphia, PA, Harrisburg, PA, and Spring Lake, Florida.

Following his pastoral ministry, Stauning became director of community relations and fund development at Polyclinic Medical Center in Harrisburg.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Axel and Agnes Stauning and Step-Mother Anine K.P. Stauning; his loving wife of 46 years Louise O. (Fillman) Stauning in 1992, his son Peter in 2003, and his sister Evelyn. He is survived by his son Timothy C. Stauning and his wife Karen of Princeton, NJ, and their children: Meredith (Stauning) Chubb and her husband Adam Chubb of Philadelphia, PA ; Robert T. Stauning and Mark H Stauning, both of Brooklyn, NY; his daughter-in-law Colleen Stauning of Hilton Head, SC and her children: N. Cody Wells and his wife Alisha of Elizabethtown, PA, Jonathan P Stauning and his wife Molly of Charlotte, NC, and Kirstin A. Stauning of Hilton Head, SC.; and very special friend Marilyn Goddin of Hershey, PA

He is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Megan Wells and Nicholas Chubb.

Paul was very active in the community serving on Boards at Mt Gretna Theatre; YMCA, Wilson College and local United Way. He was very proud of his service to the county with the NAVY. He was a devoted Father, husband and grandfather.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan 24th at 11am at Derry Presbyterian Church, 248 E. Derry Rd., Hershey PA 17033, with Rev. Dr. Robert E. Larson and Rev. Dr. Richard Houtz officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the convenience of the family in Green Cemetery, Woodbury, NJ. Arrangements have been entrusted to Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 25 W. Pine St. Palmyra, PA 17078.
