Preston J. Layfield
Preston J. Layfield, 93, of Elizabethtown passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was born Friday, October 21, 1921 in Coatesville to the late Eugene F. and Miriam (Jones) Layfield. He was married to Anna M. (Moore) Layfield on October 1, 1949.
Preston retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1981 with over 30 years of service to his country in the Army Medical Service Corps.
In addition to his wife of nearly 66 years, he will be lovingly missed by two daughters: Mary Elizabeth Law and husband Douglas, of Virginia Beach, VA; Rebecca Layfield of Downingtown; two grandchildren, Ryan Law and Caitlin Bellina and husband Matthew; two great grandchildren, James Preston and Kipling Peter Bellina as well as Preston’s extended family and caring friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Nickle and Isabel Layfield.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Preston’s Life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 in the Sell Chapel at Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA with his good friend, The Reverend A. Preston Van Deursen officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family from 10 AM until the time of the service. Military Honors will be rendered at the conclusion of the Memorial Service on Wednesday. Private interment will be at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery, Coatesville. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
