Norma M. (Kromer) Burkey

Norma May Burkey, born August 27, 1926, in California, PA, to Julia and John Kromer, passed away peacefully with her daughter and daughter-in-law by her side on Sunday, April 3, 2022.  Norma will be deeply missed by her daughter, Georgetta Gardner (Chris), daughter-in-law, Carolynne Burkey, with whom she resided for the past 34 years, her grandchildren, Lori Bechtel (Mike), Brian Houtz (Karen), Tracy Wilkerson (Shayne), Krista Gardner (Mike), Daniel Burkey (Juliana), 20 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, George W. Burkey, her sons, William F. Burkey and Barry L. Burkey, her parents, three sisters, and one brother.

At the age of 18 Norma boarded a train to the state of California to marry the love of her life who was stationed there with the US Navy.  She left this earth on the day that would have been their 77th wedding anniversary. They eventually settled in Palmyra, PA to raise their family.  Norma was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and had a grand-baby in her arms.  She loved cooking and baking and has instilled that love, along with her favorite recipes, into many of her grandchildren.  She enjoyed gardening, eating at her favorite restaurants, bus trips with friends, and french fries and ice cream on the boardwalk of Rehoboth Beach. She and her husband traveled coast to coast in their motorhome.  She looked forward to trips to stay with her daughter and family in Florida and South Carolina.  Norma retired from Kraft Foods in Palmyra.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 11th at Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home, 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place in Palmyra Cemetery.
