Nancy B. Blakeway

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Bernetta (Ames) Blakeway, who went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at Evergreen Hospice of Masonic Villages in Elizabethtown, PA. She was 88 years old.

Prior to moving to Masonic Villages in October 2021, Nancy was a lifelong resident of Bentleyville and Eighty-Four, PA.

On March 4, 1938, she was born to Arth Amer and Susan Rebecca (McKowen) Ames. After graduating from Bentleyville High School in 1956, she lived in Eighty-Four, PA, with then husband, John Kenneth Blakeway and raised two daughters, Cheryl and Sherri. She was a loving homemaker that enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, canning and sewing. Making most of the girls’ clothes when they were little, which included matching family outfits for holidays. Throughout her life, she also worked at Somerset Elementary School cafeteria, JCPenney Catalog department, then retired after 25 years as a purchasing agent at the Washington Hospital.

Some of her other passions were making pizzelles for holiday gifts, God, time at church, class reunions, bus trips to musicals and Amish country, being a Habitat for Humanity volunteer, girlfriend get togethers, lending a helpful hand to anyone and most importantly time with family. Really there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do or at least try to do. Nancy was small but mighty!

Nancy is survived by her loving daughters and family, Cheryl Alloway (Richard), Sherri Ford (Jim) and grandson, Toller Alloway all of McConnellsburg, PA. Brothers, Ted Ames (Carol) of Arizona, Harrold Ames (Ruth) of Monongahela, sisters, Barbara Cuica of Ohio and Mary Lynda Tarorick (Felix) of Florida, sister-in-law, Wanda Bates of Connecticut, along with many nieces, nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her sister Janet Travis, brothers James and David (Shut) Ames. Mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lucille and John Blakeway.

The family sends a very special thank you to the entire staff of Evergreen Hospice, who loved and cared for Nancy during the past 6 months. You will forever be in our hearts.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

Interment will be private at Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at Alzheimer's Association .
