Michael F. Verderame Sr. passed away peacefully on February 22, 2013 with his wife and 3 sons by his side. He was 88 years old. He grew up in Paterson, NJ and after serving in the US Army Air Corps during WW II he settled in Hawthorne, NJ to raise his family. During this period he was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, including being Scout Master for Troop 60 with all 3 of his sons attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. In recognition of his many years of selfless service, he was awarded the coveted Silver Beaver Award. After retiring he and his wife moved to Palmyra, PA where they have lived for the past 21 years. It was here he developed his passion for building & flying remote controlled airplanes . As a World War II veteran and B-17 radio operator he will be interred at the Ft Indian Town Gap National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife Betty, his 3 sons Michael, Ken & Ron and 4 grandchildren Rebecca, Chris, Thomas & Tanya. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26th at 9:30 AM at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 245 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Father James F. Podlesny as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 8:30 AM until time of the service at the church. Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra has been entrusted with the arrangements.
