Michael G. Shaffer
October 19, 1947 — December 2, 2023
Michael G. Shaffer, 76, of Elizabethtown, PA, passed away unexpectedly at home and departed to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Born in Brookville, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Grace (Postlethwaite) Shaffer. He was the devoted husband of Donna R. (Porter) Shaffer for 48 years.
Mike was a graduate of Brockway High School and continued his studies at Penn State University. Then, he completed training in radar and artillery in the Army National Guard. He began working in car sales for Miller-McVey Ford in State College and furthered his career as a houseparent and father figure to many at the Masonic Children’s Home of Elizabethtown for 32 years. In addition, Mike started his own car dealership which still operates in Marietta, PA, for 43 years.
You could always catch him stopping at Dunkin or traveling to Bellefonte, PA, where he and his wife built their dream home on top of a mountain. Mike was a member of Berachah Bible Church in Houston, TX, listening to lessons daily. He loved sharing his faith and storytelling, keeping up with his friends and family on Facebook, as well as helping anyone he could. Mike enjoyed going to auctions, researching genealogy, collecting numerous items, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends. His granddaughters were the joy of his life.
Surviving in addition to his wife is a son Jordon Shaffer and his wife Sara; two grandchildren: Scarlet and Sienna; a brother Stephen Shaffer and his wife Mary Ellen; and many nieces and nephews.
A time of sharing followed by a memorial service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home and Crematory. 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA, 17022. Starting promptly at 10 AM with luncheon to follow.
