Michael Dean Mateer

Michael Dean Mateer, 57, of Marietta passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of Dennis Dean Mateer and the late Theresa “Tess” (Sload) Mateer.

Mike was an avid trout fisherman and loved the outdoors. His love of animals showed when he would sit on the porch feeding squirrels. He enjoyed biking and NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhart. A member of the Marietta Boat Club, Mike could often be found sitting on the river edge and watching the birds. He also enjoyed riding snow mobile and dirt bike, visiting the American Legion, and spending time with his many friends.

In addition to his father, Mike is survived by his sister, Mindy A. Kitchen (Gary); step-mother, Mary Ferdon; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dot and Wally Sload; paternal grandparents; maternal uncle, Rick Sload; maternal aunt, Sandy Sload; and cousin, Amy Roberts.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
