Merle V. (Garrison) Walters, 99, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the home of her loving granddaughter in Derry Township. She was born Sunday, September 28, 1913 in Harrisonburg, VA to the late Charles and Cora Garrison. She was predeceased by her husbands, Layton Garrison, Charles Etzweiler, and John Walters.
She was the oldest living member of Conewago Church of the Brethren with membership dating back to 1934. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and working outdoors. Most of all she loved the Lord and was a living example as a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley Koser and husband Marlin; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Nina Finney and Alvesta Schwab; a son-in-law, Stanley Shankroff. She was predeceased by a daughter, Geraldine Shankroff; an infant son, John Garrison; four sisters, Beulah Garrison, Myrtle Keener, Eunice Yocum, and Almeta Ritter.
A Funeral Service will be held Monday, September 9th at 11:00 AM at Conewago Church of the Brethren, 7035 Schoolhouse Road, Hershey, PA 17033 with Pastor Scott Cooper officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 10:00 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow in Hershey Cemetery, Hershey. Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 has been entrusted with the arrangements.
