Merle Richard Mcknight

Merle Richard McKnight, 61, of Elizabethtown, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He was born on Tuesday, July 23, 1963 to Gladys Mae (Harbst) McKnight and the late David William McKnight. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Patricia Louise (Michael) McKnight.

His greatest passion was hunting, he began at the age of 12. You could always find him hunting, hiking, fishing or spending time outside. He watched football in his spare time and enjoyed lifting weights, watching Jeopardy, and reading about history. He loved Christmas and family vacations. He had a strong faith and a strong work ethic. He was not only a good friend but known to be reliable and dependable to everyone who knew him. He loved his K-9 companions, Willow, Millie, Rhett, and Dexter. More than anything he loved his family.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children: Ruth Elizabeth Hays, Jacquelyn Rae Hogue, and Sean Michael McKnight; grandchildren, Jocelyn, Madelyn, Evelyn, Niko, James, and Jett; and siblings, Brenda Jay, Bonnie Watson, William McKnight, and Judith Marks. He is predeceased by his siblings, Charles McKnight and Dennis McKnight.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11 AM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 398 N. Locust St., Elizabethtown, PA 17022. A time of visitation will be held from 9 AM until the start of the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the "Behavioral Health Impact Fund in memory of Merle McKnight", and sent to LG Health Foundation 2100 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
