Melvin O. Sager, 86, died Sunday, December 20, 2012 at Susquehanna Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Columbia. He was the son of the late Oliver and Grace Sager of Elizabethtown.
He is survived by his sister Fern, wife of Elwood Borrell, brother Gerald, sister Theora Lapp and sister Shirley, wife of Raymond Bowers.
Melvin was a Navy veteran (1944-1946). He worked as a farmer, a carpenter and owned a used car lot. He was a racecar driver known as Mel “Wildman” Sager, as well as a motorcycle stunt driver known as “Crazy Mel”.
Melvin was responsible for opening the first Milk Jug Store in Lancaster County.
After retiring to Texas, where he married Elfreida (deceased), he worked as a carpenter and ran a flea market stand.
He returned to Lancaster County in 2006 to be with his children who survive him: Linda, wife of Robert Aument, Diane Stratton, William Sager, Sharon Becker, Joyce, wife of Gary Aston and Michael Sager. He was preceded in death by two children; Susan and Melvin, Jr. there are also 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Military Honors will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville at 10:00 AM.
