Mary Louise “Weezie” Tobias, 90, of Lebanon, formerly of Palmyra, passed away at home on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Born Monday, April 4, 1932 in Palmyra, she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Mary Ann (Yingst) Painter. She was married 66 years to Elmer E. “Stringie” Tobias, Jr. who passed away in July 2018. Mary was also preceded in death by a son Douglas Eugene Tobias who passed away in July 1961.
Mary was baptized July 1, 1962 at Kenbrook Bible Camp. She was a member of Encounter Church, formerly Palmyra BIC, where she taught 1st Grade Sunday school, sang in the choir and decorated the sanctuary. Early in her life Mary worked at the Landis Shoe Factory, Hershey Chocolate and Hartman’s. A homemaker most of her life, Mary loved to bake cookies, throw parties and send cards. She literally took in and cared for people. She took care of her sister Jane and her Aunt Alice who lived with Mary and her husband. Mary also loved getting flowers, tending to her flower garden and attending Bill Gaither concerts.
She is survived by a daughter Deborah A. Ginder and husband Samuel of Lebanon; two grandchildren: Rachel Ginder of Bellefonte, PA and Caleb Ginder of York, NY; a niece Brenda Gerberich (Ken) and a great nephew Andrew Patterson (Heidi), and children Jack and Kate.
She was the 8th child of nine and lived the longest. Mary was preceded in death by four brothers: Harry J., Richard B., Kenneth and John E. Painter; and four sisters: Pauline Painter, Annabel Mae Peters, Katherine Whitman and Jane Eva Painter.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Encounter Church, 220 Campbelltown Road, Palmyra, PA 17078 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place in Palmyra Cemetery.
