Mary Elizabeth (Groy) Hitz

Mary Elizabeth (Groy) Hitz, 84, of Palmyra, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Cedar Haven Nursing Home, Lebanon. She was born Sunday, November 25, 1928 in Palmyra to the late Henry W. and Rebecca (Merkey) Groy. She was predeceased in 2009 by her loving husband, Alfred J. Hitz, Jr.
She was a 1946 graduate of Palmyra High School, a member of Quentin United Church of Christ, and worked as a professional secretary at Seltzers Bologna, as well as being a licensed cosmetologist, owning and operating her own salon. Most of all, she was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by a son, Stephen J. Hitz and wife Jeanne of Palmyra; a granddaughter, Melissa Hackmaster and husband Nelson of TX; two grandchildren, Garrett and McKenzie Hackmaster; a brother, Stanley Groy of Palmyra; a sister, Ruth Smith of KY. She was predeceased by a son, Thomas J. Hitz; two sisters, Martha Reifstck and Dorothy Hendrickson.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 11 AM at the Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra, PA 17078 with Rev. Jacquelyn M. Lingelbach officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 AM until time of the service. Burial will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra.
