Martin N. Risser

Martin N. Risser, 94, of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 5, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.  Born Wednesday, June 21, 1922 in Deodate, he was the son of the late Elam H. and Bessie (Horner) Risser.  In August of 1955, he married his college sweetheart, Lois R. (Rinehart) Risser.

A Veteran of WWII, Martin proudly served 3 years with the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic Ocean Fleet.  Following his military service, Mr. Risser graduated from Elizabethtown College.  After working for Hershey Foods, he went on to work for the Elizabethtown First National Bank & Trust Company and retired as an Insurance Agent from Loyal Protective Insurance Co.

In addition to being an active and longtime member of Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, he was also a member of the Elizabethtown American Legion and VFW as well as a 55 year member of the Elizabethtown Lions Club where he served as Past President.  He also served as treasurer of the Elizabethtown YMCA and the Elizabethtown Salvation Army.

Mr. Risser enjoyed playing golf as well as spending much of his time on the family farm in the Colebrook area.  Above all, he will remembered as a dedicated husband, proud father and adoring grandfather.

In addition to his devoted wife of over 61 years, he will be lovingly missed by a son, John M. Risser, of Mount Gretna, a granddaughter, Chelsea L. Risser, of Columbia and three great grandchildren, Jemma, Liam and Rowyn.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren, 777 South Mount Joy Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022 with Pastor Greg Davidson Laszakovits officiating.  Burial will follow in Risser’s Mennonite Cemetery, Elizabethtown.  There will be a viewing held at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA  17022, 717-367-1543 on Wednesday evening between 6:00-8:00 PM and also at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
