Martha Jane (Yeagley) Hossler, 96, of Elizabethtown, Mt. Joy Township, PA passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024, enjoying many conversations and visits with family members prior to passing. Born in Palmyra, Pa on December 24, 1927, Martha was a daughter of George Evan Yeagley and Violet Martha (Baum) Yeagley.
Martha graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1946. During her high school years Martha worked as a waitress at the Farm Diner, where she met her future husband Gerald S. Hossler following WWII. In 1947-1949 Martha worked at the Savoy Shoe Factory in Elizabethtown. Martha and Gerald married June 26, 1949 at St. Paul’s Evangelical United Brethren Church in Elizabethtown, PA. They also involved in Friendship Force International, an organization designed to promote multicultural understanding using homestays in foreign countries. Marty and Jerry were proud to have lived on Bellaire Rd in Mt Joy Township and to have supported their community since 1950.
Martha served as Mount Joy Township Tax Collector for 12 years from 1981 – 1993. She regularly attended Mount Joy Township government meetings, was a member of numerous historical societies, assisted with political campaigns and devoted time to genealogy and historical research. As a Fairview School PTA member, Martha assisted in establishing a school library. She also organized and staffed a Summer Lending Library at Fairview School. Marty enjoyed family times, dining out, gardening, baking, dancing and traveling to faraway places with Jerry. She always made everyone feel welcome with a big smile and a hug.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Stern Hossler on November 10, 2017. Surviving are four children, Donna Kaye (Stan) Lavender, Lois Faye (Charles) Brewer, Barry Jay (Jan) Hossler, Dennis Ray (Joan) Hossler; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, a brother Harold Yeagley, a brother-in-law Arthur Geigley and sisters-in-law Nadine Huggins, Esther Yeagley, Carol Yeagley and Jestena Yeagley.
Family and friends are invited for viewing on Friday, February 16th from 9 to 10 AM at Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 N Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM with Pastor John Marcott officiating. Burial will follow in Milton Grove Cemetery, Elizabethtown, PA.
