Margaret Patricia (Hladon) Mcloughlin

Margaret Patricia (Hladon) McLoughlin, 77, of Palmyra, formerly of Allentown, passed away with loving family by her side on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Penn State Hershey Rehabilitation Hospital. She was born Sunday, August 9, 1936 in Youngstown, OH to the late Samuel and Margaret (Smotrilla) Hladon. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, James Dann McLoughlin.

Margaret had her shining moment as a majorette at Woodrow Wilson High School in Youngstown, Ohio. After high school she was employed as a telephone operator for Bell of Ohio, then as a stewardess for the former Eastern Airline. She was a faithful member of St. Thomas More parish in Allentown, where she was the former President of the Women’s Guild as well as the head supervisor for the cafeteria at STM Grade School. After moving to Palmyra, she attended The Church of the Holy Spirit. Margaret took great joy in music; she enjoyed listening to Polka music and watching musicals, plays, and other theatrical performances. She kept her hands busy painting ceramics. Margaret was a caring and loving family woman. She was always bragging about her family and proudly showing off pictures of them. She was a devoted wife and cared for her husband James after his health declined.

She is survived by a son James M. McLoughlin and wife Susan of Homer City; two daughters, Mary Ellen Werner of Palmyra, and Patricia Cole and husband Richard “Chet” of Palmyra; five grandchildren, Bridget, TJ and Kevin Cole, Maggie and Stephen McLoughlin; a sister, Marian Shepelevich of Poland, OH; a brother, John Hladon and wife Chris of Powell, OH; a sister-in-law, Carol Ann Mimnaugh of Plains, PA; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Stephen B. McLoughlin.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at 7 PM at Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078, with Father James F. Podlesny officiating. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 5 PM until time of the service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14th at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown, PA 18106 with Rev. Msgr. John P. Murphy as celebrant. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 9:30 AM until time of the service at the church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown.
