Margaret S. (Chinn) Lynch, 84, of Elizabethtown and formerly of Terre Haute, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Lancaster General Hospital on Sunday, February 14, 2016. She was born Monday, May 11, 1931 in Terre Haute, Indiana to the late Harve N. Chinn and Francel (Arford/Chinn) Carter. She and her husband, Dr. Samuel J. Lynch, Sr. shared sixty years together until his passing in 2010.
Margaret was a graduate of St. Francis College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Margaret was a high school English teacher for twenty-six years following ten years as a substitute teacher. During that time, she also did graduate studies at Millersville University and the Pennsylvania State University. She held memberships in the National Education Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and the Warwick Education Association until her retirement in 1993. Also, she was a member of Theta Nu, Alpha Sigma Alpha and was elected by fellow teachers in Bedford County into the Alpha Alpha State Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, and had served as the Sunday School pianist.
Margaret and her husband spent much time traveling with their three sons tenting across the United States several times. They covered all fifty states and the Canadian Provinces including Newfoundland. After retirement, they made ten trips overseas visiting six continents and many islands. Her logs of their trips and photograph albums were a hobby that she shared with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her daily crossword puzzle.
Surviving are three sons: Larry W. Lynch and wife Christine, of Decatur, Il, Samuel J. Lynch, Jr., of York, David L. Lynch and companion Kelly Hawthorne, of New Holland; seven grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren and a brother, James E. Carter and wife, Judy, of Indiana. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Rev. Harvey N. Chinn.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Miller-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, 130 North Market Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022 with Pastor Skip Davis officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Milton Grove Cemetery, Elizabethtown. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a viewing at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8 PM and also from 10 AM until the time of the service on Saturday.
