Lucy J. (Kauffman) Sweigart

Lucy Sweigart, of Brethren Village, Lititz, formerly of Elizabethtown, died August 1, 2024. She was the wife of the late Abram (Red) J. Sweigart who died in 1991.

Born on Sept. 17, 1930 in Maytown, PA, the daughter of the late Christian H. and Elizabeth Schock Kauffman. Lucy had the distinction of being the youngest grandchild of John S. & Mary Musser Schock.  She was a graduate of East Donegal High School class of 1948.  At 93 years old she was the oldest member of Maytown Church of God, having taught the Seniors Sunday School Class for many years. In recent years she also attended Faith Bible Church in Mt. Joy.

Lucy worked for the Bainbridge and Maytown garment factories. She was an excellent seamstress and as a homemaker “Put up” many vegetables and fruits from her garden. Lucy enjoyed reading and doing puzzles. She will be fondly remembered for her love of God and family.

Surviving Lucy are a son, Scott Sweigart (Penny) of Elizabethtown and 3 daughters, Pamela  Neidig (Les) of Washington Boro; Peggy Sweigart of Briarcliff Manor, NY; Patsy Poust (Ron) of Carlisle;  6 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren (and 2 on the way) and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lucy was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Rhoda S. Kauffman, Carrie S. Hooten, Miriam S. (James) Watto and 2 brothers; Paul S and Daniel S. Kauffman; and 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Maytown Church of God, 14 W. Elizabeth St., Maytown, PA with Pastor Scott Sweigart officiating at 11:00 AM. Visitation with family will take place from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private.
