Lee E. Gayman, 74, of Mechanicsburg, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Hershey Medical Center, after struggling for the past nine months with leukemia.  He was a nurse anesthetist, musician and harp builder.

He was the son of the late Jacob and Elizabeth (Niswander) Gayman.  A 1958 graduate of James Buchanan High School, he attended Lebanon Valley College, received his Diploma in Nursing from Binghamton State Hospital School of Nursing, and his certification as a nurse anesthetist from the Harrisburg Hospital School of Anesthesia.  He served in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, and was activated into the U.S. Air Force in 1968 following the Pueblo Incident, serving as a Captain, responsible for patient transport. Lee was employed by Harrisburg Hospital for over thirty years as a CRNA. After his retirement he worked for Lehigh Anesthesia, and retired in March 2014.

Lee was a member of Market Square Presbyterian Church in Harrisburg, where he sang in the choir.  He was a founding member of the musical group, Still Simple Gifts, and played a variety of instruments, from recorder to fiddle to hammered dulcimer.  He was also an avid gardener, woodworker and harp builder, having built over 40 harps and other musical instruments.

Surviving him are his wife, Lois Gayman; son, Jonathan (Christina) Gayman, of St. Louis, MO and daughter Jennifer (Christopher) Ruffner of Greenbelt, MD; brother Marlin (Phillis) Gayman of Chambersburg; sister Thelma (Robert) McLucas of Greencastle and stepbrother Owen (Vesta) Statler. He was preceded in death by his brother Donald and his wife Nancy Gayman.

A memorial service will be held at Market Square Presbyterian Church (20 S. Second St., Harrisburg, PA 17101, 717-257-1270) on April 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Rothermel Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
