Larry Lee Fernsler passed peacefully from this earth on May 14, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer.  He was the oldest son of the late Paul Hackman Fernsler and Arlene Bachman Fernsler of Palmyra.

Larry was born March 10, 1944 in Denver, CO, where his father was stationed during WWII.  When the family returned to Lebanon County, his parents settled in Campbelltown, where Larry and his younger brother Dean became “Campbelltown Kids.” As a teenager, Larry was the starting nose guard on Palmyra High School’s undefeated 1961 undefeated football team, played baseball, wrestled, and participated in track and field.  Larry graduated from Palmyra the following sprint in 1962, then served four years in the United States Air Force as a hydraulic aircraft mechanic in Amarillo, TX.  Larry returned to Campbelltown, working first at the Hershey Abattoir, Nancy Lou Barbeque, Bucher’s, and then L.V. Ceiling in Annville, where he eventually retired after more than 30 years as a warehouse manager.   Larry married the former Barbara Brubaker of Palmyra and together the couple raised two daughters.  In retirement, Larry enjoyed golfing, tinkering with a variety of hobbies, breakfasts with friends, and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Larry is survived by his loving daughters: Julie Cheyney and husband Doug of Palmyra, Heather Paterno and husband Scott of Hershey; brother, Dean Fernsler and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Brandon Cheyney, Jack Paterno, Carson Cheyney, PJ Paterno, and Sally Paterno; and five grand dogs.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024 at noon at the Rothermel-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 25 W. Pine St., Palmyra, PA 17078. A time of visitation will be held from 11 AM until the start of the service. Burial will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

In lieu of flowers, Larry would be honored if well-wishers considered contributing to the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation or the Palmyra VFW Post No. 6417.
