Kyun Cha “but you can call her Sue” Myers (73) passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025 in Middletown, Pennsylvania, and she left this world the same way she entered it -- at home, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
Always one for keeping things interesting, Kyun was born in South Korea during the Korean War in 1952. Born at home and during the war, she never quite knew what her exact birthdate was, yet she and her family confidently celebrated it on May 6th every year. Raised in Pusan, the second biggest city in South Korea, she was a city girl through and through. That didn’t stop her from moving to a small town in the US after meeting her future husband, Bruce Myers. Together they would have two daughters, Michele and Crystal, and they raised them in three different countries across three continents, including a significant portion in the country formerly known as West Germany.
There wasn’t anything that Kyun loved more than her daughters and family. Fiercely protective and passionately determined, she was the very picture of a dragon mother. Nothing rivaled her dedication to her family. 어머니의 사랑은 영원합니다 - A mother's love is eternal.
But her love of stocks and trading did come in at a respectable second place. Like a trader on Wall Street, she was up before the ringing of the bell, ready for the day’s trading. Did she make some questionable choices? Yes. Did she make some good choices? Sometimes. But did she do it all with gusto and excitement to spare? Absolutely.
But before her nose was ever buried in her computer studying stocks, her first love was gardening. She loved all things beautiful and flowery. She spent years planting an assortment of flowers, bushes and trees across her yard with no real design in mind other than to make things beautiful. It all somehow worked. It was a little messy but also beautifully chaotic, much like her.
Everything Kyun did, she did with her whole heart. Some found it intimidating, but if you were smart and could figure out her secret, you would know that all you had to do was clean your plate, or better yet, ask for seconds, then there would be a spot in her heart for you. Fortunately, doing this wasn’t very difficult because she was an amazing cook – excluding a few minor creative mishaps. Never following a recipe, inadvertently making it impossible for her daughters to ever replicate a recipe accurately, no one ever left her house hungry or without a full belly. And we are forever heartbroken that our hearts and bellies will forever be a little emptier now.
In addition to her husband, Bruce Myers, and her two daughters, Michele Mihelic and Crystal Myers, she is survived by her sister, Park Hwa-Ja; and brothers, Park Jong-Dae and Park Jong-Tae.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 6:00pm until 7:30pm at Fager-Finkenbinder Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 208 North Union Street, Middletown, PA 17057.
