Kermit Martin Sipe, 90, of Hershey, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg. He was born Sunday, July 29, 1923 in Decatur Township, Mifflin County, to the late Martin and Mary “Mamie” (Erb) Sipe. He is survived by his long wife of 65 years, Charlotte A. (Craig) Sipe.
He served in the US Army during WWII earning several decorations and citations including two bronze stars. He retired from the Milton S. Hershey School where he worked in the agriculture department, was a member of Gravel Hill United Methodist Church for 50 years, lifetime member of Shellsville VFW Post 9639, and Hershey American Legion Post 386. He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, enjoyed gardening, golf, hunting and fishing. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Mary A. Sipe and companion Bryan L. Thomas of Harrisburg; a son, Rodney K. Sipe and wife Louise P. of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Christine Sipe-Phillips and husband Dwight III of Harrisburg, Apryle Sipe of Harrisburg; two great-grandsons, Nicholas Sipe, Dwight Phillips IV; two extended grandsons, Tyler Thomas and Bradley Thomas of Harrisburg; a brother, Marlin Sipe and wife Midge of McClure; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 25 th at 2 PM at Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Rd., Palmyra, PA 17078 with Rev. Douglas Smith officiating. Family and friends are invited for viewing from 1 PM until time of the service at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra. Rothermel Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 25 West Pine Street, Palmyra has been entrusted with the arrangements.
